underglaze pencil drawings

my first experiment with underglaze drawing:

So, I had a very constructive talk with my husband tonight at Cuco's mexican taqueria about all these ideas I've been having lately. Out of it spawned some new goals, amongst them me wanting to make narrative jewelry, so, kinda like, an illustrated necklace or bracelet, that involve the themes of passages, thresholds, or crossroads and the images that go along with those ideas. Still working on it, but that's what spawned the drawings yesterday of Thoth and Cerebus, because they both guard doorways that hold demons or hell at bay. I think this is such a neat idea. Now, i just have to figure out what stories I want to tell, and the context of putting it on a necklace or bracelet. I'm leaning toward non-traditional representations of ancient symbols or mythical creatures, just because I like the modern/classical jusxtaposition.

All that said, I've got some new ideas, and I'll be posting them as I create them. Also gonna be makin some new variations on old themes, like my trees and my sumerian stuff, for some upcoming craft shows I plan on applying for. Wish me luck!

I'm back!

Way less ill and in the state now. Was going to work on some enamels tonight, but then realized I had no pencil sharpener for my brand new underglaze pencils. So, instead, some concept drawings I've been working on. Still on the passageways and memory thing.

these are the masks i'm working on. they are going to grow up to be real Venetians some day. plaster cast material, and a tin foil mold of my face that i've jury-rigged. the first one turned out a little mummyish, the second is way smoother and should fit better, but is still drying on its mold on the left there:

but look at those awesome textures! <3

So! things have been slow on the art front around here these days. here are some images. a lovely image of one of my tree pendants. well... its a little dark:

where the magic happens (my studio. duh.):

and a sudafed induced birdman::

A cold, I has it

And it won't go away! Which seriously hinders my jewelry making, due to, y'know, all the toxic dust, fumes and whatnot that require me to wear a mask. And that's like, 2 layers of crap to try to breathe through. So, none of that this week.

I do have some random sketches and a mask I've been working on though. I will post those for your amusement, amazement, or horror tonight!

A new colorful sketch of some mythical beasts, and an older dragon sketch i found looking for my paints today. i've acquired some underglaze pencils and graffitto glaze transfer paper for my birthday, which now means i can draw on my enamels!!! as soon as i'm not being pwned by my cold, i'm so playin with those babies.

so, this turned out kinda weird, it was an experiment with a stencil i had laying around and a heart shape. Looks kinda macabre, like there's ribs inside it or something, which is neat. but i don't really like the white by itself. maybe i'll add some colors or patterns...

Another pendant. This one has the acid etched pattern on it, with drippy blue. I think it needs some more layers of drippy color, but this is where i have it for now.
